Egeria Design Launches Trouble Notification Service

AUSTIN, TX - Egeria Design, Inc. launched the Erato™ Trouble Notification Service today. Erato brings rapid notification of product trouble within reach of a broader range of software vendors. Previously, such service was only available to enterprise-level software providers, on large-scale systems. With Erato, small and mid-size software makers can also take a proactive approach to managing trouble reports from their products installed at customer sites.

"This offering is aimed squarely at a source of conflict I saw again and again during my days in Technical Support and Account Management." said David Pinckney, Founder and President of Egeria Design. "The software could detect trouble, and document the event in a log file, but that log was on the customer's system. We, as a vendor, wouldn't find out the event was happening until it got in the way of our customer's business. That's when they were motivated to report the situation to us. By that time, they're angry about it, and the situation has been deteriorating for a while. I'd always wished for a way to tackle problem before it became a Customer [Satisfaction] issue."

Erato does not replace the customary practice of documenting application events in a message log file. Rather, Erato enhances logging by giving the software provider a mechanism to report unusual events as soon as they are detected. Erato captures information about the software application and processing environment, and sends a report back to the software provider. The software provider can designate multiple reporting destinations, each of which can receive either full detail or summary reports. The software provider can also segment their customer base, for greater insight into which groups of users are having problems.

The Erato Trouble Notification Service is available immediately for software providers using the Java™ Platform version 1.3 or later.
